WHO I AM AND WHAT I DO

My name is Marie and I am a

Remedial and Sports Massage Therapist.

I first began my massage career, studying for a Swedish Massage Diploma at The Western School of Massage, Glasgow.

This followed shortly after with a Diploma in Sports and Remedial Massage, again with the Western School.

I became a therapist to help people.

Massage has helped me so much during a particularly tough time in my personal life.  Not only has it helped to reduce the tension brought on by anxiety and help with stress headaches, I have felt an enormous sense of well-being after a massage. I knew this was something I had to learn to do to help people feel the best they could be.

I treat all clients holistically as I know a person's health can be influenced by their physical and nutritional state, level of fitness, emotional state, thought patterns and beliefs, and the state of their spirit. My treatments will not only bring about a change in tension and tone, it will increase range of movement in and around a joint, reduce pain and stress, and ultimately increase relaxation.

I am a fully qualified Remedial and Sports Massage Therapist.

SWEDISH MASSAGE DIPLOMA

I began my Swedish Massage Diploma with The Western School of Massage.  Having asked lots of friends and colleagues where to study, Western School always came out on top!  It is the best school around, and has trained lots of amazing therapists for over 25 years. It is also the only school to offer University credit rated courses in Swedish and Remedial & Sports Massage.

During the course, I gained extensive knowledge on the effects and benefits of massage, how to use a holistic approach, detailed anatomy and physiology,  muscles and their origins, insertions and actions, an excellent understanding of all 11 systems of the body, pathology, homeostasis, the different types of tissues in the body and contraindications.

Cross Fit Class

REMEDIAL AND SPORT MASSAGE DIPLOMA

Shortly after qualifying in Swedish Massage, I decided to further my knowledge with a Remedial and Sports Massage Diploma with The Western School of Massage again.  This detailed course enabled me to gain extensive knowledge in assessing and treating musculo-skeletal problems, stress and anxiety. Objectives of remedial and sport massage are to reduce pain, increase range of movement, restore balance, enhance (athletic) performance and reduce the risk of re-injury. I have been trained in the treatments of targeted Swedish, neuromuscular, myofascial, muscle energy, trigger point therapy, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), and active, passive and restricted movements.

HOT AND COLD STONES DIPLOMA

I gained a hot and cold stone massage diploma from Business Gateway.  This in depth course gave me the skills and knowledge to confidently offer this wonderfully rejuvenating and healing treatment.  Using hot (thermotherapy) and cold (hydrotherapy) stones,  they allow the skin to absorb the toning grapeseed oil while working into the deeper muscle layers of the body.  Benefits of hot stones include increased blood circulation, improved blood flow to tissues, increase in the release of toxins, decrease in blood pressure, stress, fatigue and tension.  Cold stones are beneficial to a decrease in muscle spasm, alleviation of swelling, stimulation of the autonomic nervous system and have an energising effect.
